"Porcelain Plate By The Imperial Vienna Manufactory – Biedermeier Period"
Magnificent and rare polychrome porcelain plate attributed to the Imperial Vienna Manufactory, dating to the Biedermeier period (circa 1815–1848). The piece stands out for its outstanding craftsmanship and refined painted decoration, representative of the finest 19th-century Viennese porcelain production. The hand-painted miniature on the plate depicts with certainty the mythological episode of Venus showing Aeneas the arms forged by Vulcan, taken from Virgil’s Aeneid. Venus is shown beside the Trojan hero, identifiable by his armor, set within a wooded landscape opening onto the sky. A winged putto enhances the mythological and symbolic character of the scene. The painting is of exceptional quality, with great attention to figure modeling, flowing drapery, and harmonious color tones. The wide rim is richly decorated in Neoclassical style, featuring elegant grotesque and arabesque motifs in raised gilding against lilac/pink and cobalt blue grounds, creating a striking decorative frame. The reverse bears the traditional blue underglaze Austrian shield mark, emblematic of the Imperial Vienna Manufactory, together with the inscription identifying the mythological subject. The plate is in perfect condition.Diameter: approx. 24–25 cm.A highly desirable collector’s piece for enthusiasts of Vienna porcelain, Neoclassical and Biedermeier art, and refined historical decorative objects.
