Claude Gellée, Known As Claude Le Lorrain, Landscape With Cattle And Peasants, 59 X 75 Cm, Dlg Van Bloemenn

Good perspective with light coming from behind the painting, livestock and peasants in the foreground. Ruins: a Roman theater on a hill, trees to the side with delicate foliage silhouetted against the clear sky. In the background, a city, probably surrounded by ramparts, a castle with a tower, and a body of water. This painting comes from a private collection in Nancy. It is framed in an Empire-style frame, which was adapted in the 19th century (see photo of the keyholes cut on two corners of the frame). 17th century. Dimensions of the canvas: 59 x 75 cm. Good condition: the photos reveal some old retouching in the sky, particularly on the left (see photos). No tears or major damage.
