BIOGRAPHY: Born on August 12, 1912, Nikolai Timkov began his studies at the Art Technikum in Rostov-on-Don between 1927 and 1931. He continued his studies at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture from 1933 to 1939. He was active in Moscow from 1930 to 1933, then settled in Leningrad, where he spent most of his career.
Timkov participated in numerous exhibitions throughout the Soviet Union, including the prestigious All-Union Art Exhibition. Moscow in 1955, and the Soviet Russia exhibition in Moscow in 1960.
Timkov is one of the best-known Russian painters of the 20th century. Although trained in the academic tradition of Russian realism at the Academy of Arts, Timkov developed his unique style, characterized by impressionistic brushstrokes and original compositional solutions.
His works are exhibited in all major Russian museums, including the Russian Museum in St. Petersburg and the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow.
