Stained Glass - Stained Glass Windows - Switzerland
This Swiss stained-glass window, probably from the 17th century, has suffered the ravages of time, and the paint is partially faded.
On either side of the window are depicted two armed men dressed in Renaissance fashion. They stand on either side of a coat of arms featuring a double-headed eagle surmounted by a crown. Above and below, Saint James or another pilgrim is represented three times in shields. The upper part of the window depicts a battle scene, pitting horsemen on the left against men with a cannon on the right.
The painting is done in grisaille and silver stain on colored glass. The entire piece is set in lead.
