Napoleon III Period 19th Century Side Table
A black lacquered sideboard inlaid with brass stringing and beautifully balanced, chased and gilded bronze ornamentation, giving it a very elegant and relatively understated look for this type of piece. It opens with a lockable door that functions perfectly, revealing a varnished mahogany interior with two shelves. This door, as well as the upper rail, features exquisite floral marquetry (and two small white birds on the door) composed of engraved brass, mother-of-pearl, and white bone. The cabinet consists of two rounded corner columns with moldings adorned with chased and gilded bronze drops (resembling asparagus) on three levels. The columns are topped with Corinthian capitals, also in chased and gilded bronze, as are the base rings.
