Object description :

"Painting "the River", Signed P. Ballue, 1893 – Late 19th Century"
A beautiful oil on panel depicting a peaceful scene in the heart of a lush forest. Tall trees lean gently over a calm stream, its surface reflecting the surrounding vegetation. A path along the bank invites leisurely strolls. A large boulder sits in the foreground, adding depth to the composition. Light seems to filter through the foliage, creating a soft and serene atmosphere. The scene evokes a tranquil late afternoon, perfect for contemplation. The gilt frame, richly decorated with floral motifs and scrolls, underscores the classical and precious character of the work. This landscape, both simple and poetic, captures the essence of a peaceful, almost timeless nature. The artist's signature appears in the lower left corner, along with the date and place: Angles, 1893. Pierre Ernest Ballue (1855–1928) was a French landscape painter. Originally from Touraine, he was influenced by masters such as Corot and painted natural scenes of Crozant, Fresselines, the French Riviera, and his native region. He exhibited regularly at the Salon des Artistes Français, receiving several awards. Married to Thérèse Pomey, a miniaturist artist, he was also the father of Jeanne Goupille, a member of the French Resistance honored as Righteous Among the Nations. His poetic and luminous work remains in several French museums. *********Period: Late 19th century Excellent condition Shipping available upon request in France and internationally Dimensions: Width: 53 cm Height: 45 cm Depth: 5 cm Reference: 160925.2 https://www.antiquites-lecomte.com/boutique/cadres-et-tableaux/tableau-la-riviere-signe-p-ballue-1893-fin-xixe/
