A painting full of sensitivity, set in a sumptuous floral and peacock feather motif, depicts an elegantly dressed woman in a floral dressing gown, half-open at the shoulder to reveal a bare breast.
A figure in a kilono is positioned to one side.
The influence of Japanese art on Western artists became evident from the late 19th century onwards with Impressionism.
It became a new source of inspiration and sparked great interest among artists who discovered a new type of painting, as seen in Monet's paintings of his wife. Dressed in a kimono in 1876, Pissarro said: "Japanese artists confirm my visual art; the numerous paintings by Gustav Klimt, Alfred Stevens (The Japanese Parisian, 1872), Van Gogh (The Cherry Trees in Bloom), Conrad Kiesel... Japonism was born.
The painting is framed. Signature at the bottom to be deciphered."
