"Virgin And Child "
The Black Madonna of Einsiedeln. The Black Madonna is carved from pear wood and measures 119 cm. Its origin is unknown, but it is believed to have been brought here around 1466. Originally, the face and hands were painted, but soot from burning candles eventually blackened them. Oil on canvas, late 17th/early 18th century.
