"Choisy Le Roi - Louis XVI Style Earthenware Vase With Vermeil (gilt-plated Sterling Silver) Mount"
An ovoid vase in fine earthenware with a cobalt blue glaze (known as Sèvres blue), adorned with a rich Louis XVI style mount in chased vermeil (gilt silver). The vase bears the mark B & H Cie / Choisy-le-Roi (for Hautin-Boulenger & Cie) underneath. The mount bears the French silver hallmark with a boar's head. Late 19th century, 1880-1900. This piece illustrates the luxury production of the Choisy-le-Roi earthenware factory in the last quarter of the 19th century, enhanced by a Parisian vermeil mount, typical of collaborations between ceramists and goldsmiths for the decorative arts market. We were unable to find the maker's mark; it is likely Risler and Carré, who collaborated with Choisy-le-Roi. Excellent condition, no damage, the gilt is still very present, though slightly worn. Height 11 cm
