Commentary: Our work belongs to the series of pairs of lancers and halberdiers created by Houssin. This student of François Jouffroy (1806-1882) and Aimé Millet (1819-1891) exhibited at the Salon in Paris from 1873 onwards. He received medals in 1887, 1889, and 1890. In 1894, he became professor of modeling at the Sèvres National Porcelain Manufactory. The artist created numerous busts of contemporary figures. The Chartreuse Museum in Douai holds the majority of his works, but the Musée d'Orsay houses the allegory of South America, created in collaboration with Aimé Millet to decorate the former Palais du Trocadéro for the 1878 Universal Exhibition.
