"Painting "symbolic Allegory Of The Three Graces" By Sarkis E"
Allegorical Scene by the Water – Three Young Women. Oil on canvas, signed lower right by Sarkis Erganian (1870-1950). An elegant Symbolist composition depicting three young women draped in classical style, gathered in a verdant landscape by the water. The scene, imbued with gentleness and poetry, evokes a moment of harmony between idealized female figures and nature, in the spirit of the mythological or allegorical scenes very much in vogue at the end of the 19th century. The brushwork is delicate and nuanced, favoring transparencies and a pastel palette of greens, pinks, and mauves, lending the whole a dreamlike atmosphere. The treatment of the bodies and drapery is in keeping with an academic tradition tinged with Symbolism, typical of the transitional period between late academicism and Art Nouveau sensibility. The work is presented in a substantial period carved wooden frame decorated with roses, particularly decorative, which remarkably enhances the composition.
