Antique Photograph On Enamel Plate, Portrait Of édouard Pailleron - Signed Théophile Soyer
Rare enamel depicting the portrait of Édouard Pailleron, a 19th-century French man of letters and playwright.
The work is signed “Th. Soyer” in the lower right corner.
Théophile Soyer (1853-1940) was a French enameler belonging to a line of Parisian enameler.
The portrait in this enamel was created using the Lafon de Camarsac process, a technique of photographing onto metal developed in the 19th century, prized for its fine detail, deep blacks, and excellent image preservation over time. The beard was created using the photographic process, and the rest was entirely recreated by Théophile Soyer.
The whole piece is presented in an antique gilded wooden frame.
