Louis XVI Chest Of Drawers, Made By The Compagnons Du Devoir (a French Guild Of Craftsmen).
Large Louis XVI style chest of drawers, straight-fronted, in walnut with a softwood back. It opens at the front with a molded drawer surmounted by a fixed drawer, separated by straight rails. The fluted uprights rest on turned, tapered feet. The shaped apron is inlaid with marquetry depicting the symbols of guilds (square and compass). It is topped with a removable walnut shelf for access to the chest. Period: first half of the 19th century. Bronze mounts include rings on discs as drawer pulls and keyhole escutcheons. Assembled with pegs. Length: 1.27 m Width: 57 cm Height: 78 cm
