Gothic Style
Rare Set of Three Gothic Wall Sconces – Early 20th Century. An exceptional set of three antique wall sconces, carved from dense and finely worked pear wood. Each sconce represents a stylized bird, likely inspired by medieval bestiaries (griffin or fantastical bird), characteristic of the early 20th-century Neo-Gothic style. The birds hold in their beaks a four-sided tulip-shaped lantern, a stamped copper structure housing granulated yellow glass. When lit, these lanterns diffuse a warm, vibrant, and deeply atmospheric light, creating a spectacular, almost cinematic ambiance. The ensemble produces lighting of rare charm, ideal for: a period home, an architect's or decorator's project, or an unusual or intimate space such as a bar, restaurant, library, private mansion, or cultural center. These sconces come from a small château in Burgundy, from which they have retained all their character and patina. The effect, once illuminated, is absolutely remarkable. Good overall condition, in working order. Possible improvement: replacement of the electrical wire with a more modern cable. There are small cracks in the woodwork, related to the original wall mounting (screw holes). Sold as is, with normal patina and marks due to age and use. Dimensions: Height: 35 cm Width: 10.5 cm Terms of Sale: Sold exclusively as a set of three. Price: €1,580. Firm price, non-negotiable. The set will not be sold separately. A rare, expressive, and decorative set, intended for a discerning eye. Lighting with character, steeped in history, that is not available twice.
