Military Field Writing Desk With Period Secrets, 1840, 19th Century
In good condition, made of burr walnut, with a working lock. It has two secret drawers with openings concealed in the pen tray, operated by a spring mechanism. This releases the small panel and provides access to the drawers. There are signs of use, but it is well-preserved. I date it to around 1840/50, 19th century. Dimensions when open: 50 cm. I believe it is military; the interior contained correspondence from an infantry captain during the reign of Louis Philippe. From a personal collection.
