Napoleon III Slanted Desk

A beautiful rosewood and palisander veneered desk. Curved on all sides, it opens with a drop-front. The interior features three small drawers and a large secret compartment, and the top is leather-covered. Richly ornamented with finely chased gilt bronze: an openwork gallery with fleur-de-lis motifs, framing fillets with pearls and foliage, cherub busts, and floral swags. Polychrome and gilt porcelain medallions, monogram and floral decoration, are set within rocaille frames. The cabriole legs with sabots are finished with a French polish.
