The painting depicts the portrait of a young girl with an intense gaze, presumably of aristocratic origin, given her extremely refined clothing and the exquisite jewellery she wears.

Of beautiful quality and preservation, the canvas shows the typical stylistic characteristics of the Caravaggio-inspired painter Antiveduto Gramatica (Siena, 1571 - Rome, 1626), who was active in Rome in the first thirty years of the 17th century, and can therefore be attributed to an artist from his prolific workshop.

He was an artist capable of producing works with an immediately recognisable stylistic imprint, combining Bolognese classicism, due to his interest in Domenichino, with Roman Caravaggism.

Grammatica was already an established artist around 1590, with important patrons such as Cardinal del Monte, between 1610 and 1619 with Duke Ferdinando Gonzaga, and making use of talented collaborators, first and foremost his son Imperiale Gramatica, a direct follower of his father's models and very faithful to his style, although naturally more immature in his manner.

To confirm the proposed attribution, it is sufficient to compare our canvas with others by the master, famous for his monumental portraits characterised by a style of great visual impact, anticipating the Baroque, often depicting hieratic and powerful figures, with a dramatic use of light and strong realism.

As we can easily see by comparing our canvas with a series of works listed below, the portraits produced by Gramatica share very similar physical types, especially the female ones, with round, idealised faces, dressed in sumptuous clothes treated with delicacy. His powerful close-ups evoke Caravaggio's models, with clear lines and lighting that shows strong contrasts, achieving an intensity of great impact.
