Wakisashi Hisamichi
A very fine wakizashi by Hisamichi with a Tokubetsu certificate. Muromachi period. It has a 56 cm nagasa (stem). It retains its 19th-century polish and is extremely well preserved. It features a very unusual yakiba (guard) for this swordsmith. The koshirae (handguard) is decorated with shishi (spirals) on the fuchi (side guards), and the kashira (handguard) is in shakudo nanako (gold-inlaid decoration). The tsuba (handguard) is quatrefoil-shaped in shakudo nanako with two dragons on the edge. The kurigata (handguard) in shakudo rests on a silver plate decorated with omori-style waves. The wari kogai (handguard) is also in silver, matching this plate. The kojiri (handguard) is in shakudo with a gold dragon decoration. Additional photos available upon request.
