Transition Period Commode, Mid-18th Century, Oak Marquetry
It opens with three projecting drawers, rosewood veneered fronts, geometric friezes, and dark stringing intarsia. The cabriole legs terminate in gilt-bronze sabots, typical of Parisian production in the second half of the 18th century. The keyhole escutcheons and handles are in chased bronze, decorated with knots and foliage. The locks are present, some escutcheons retaining their keys. The top is covered with a black veined marble slab, molded around the edge, well fitted to the body. The back and underside are solid wood, revealing an earlier construction, with traces of tools and traditional joinery. The commode is stamped, the branding depicting fleurs-de-lis, visible in the wood. Good overall condition for an 18th-century piece, with wear and restorations consistent with age, without detracting from its legibility or authenticity. Dimensions: L 114 x H 84 x D 60 cm
