The hunter stands bare-chested, clad only in an animal skin held by a baldric .
He is armed with his spear and an axe . The man's power and virility are emphasized here .
The dog , meanwhile , is depicted at a standstill , scanning the horizon for prey , its senses alert .
The sculptor's signature "MARCEL DEBUT" is incised , on the side of the naturalistic base .

Marcel Debut , was a famous French sculptor and painter , born in Paris on March 27, 1865 .
Mr. Debut began his apprenticeship with his father , the sculptor Jean Didier Debut (1824-1893) .
He then studied under the sculptors Jules Lefebvre (1834-1912) and Pierre François Marie Boulanger (1813-1891) .
He exhibited at the Salon of French Artists , of which he was a member , from 1883 and received an Honorable Mention in 1895.
Marcel Debut is considered one of the most important academic sculptors working in France , between the 19th and 20th centuries .
Between classicism and explicit realism , he found an original path .
His style is particularly recognizable in the precision he brought to the details of his subjects .
Marcel Debut died in 1933 .
