French School Portrait Of A Lady With Dog XVIII Century
Artist: Unconnu
Portrait of a lady in an interior, wearing typical attire, dating to around 1760-70, seated with her pug dog on her lap.
Perhaps attributable to the circle of Joseph Siffred Duplessis, who moved to Rome in 1774 and became a student of Pierre Subleyras, where he met and befriended Joseph Vernet. Returning to his native country in 1748, he moved to Lyon in 1751, and from there to Paris the following year, dedicating himself to portraiture. It was only during the 1750s that he achieved success with portraits of Marie Antoinette and, in particular, Benjamin Franklin.
It has been cleaned and has not been restored. The frame is in the 18th-century Roman style.
Overall dimensions are 58.5 x 50 x 5 cm.
