Oil On Canvas By Pierre Clerc (1923-1984)
Oil on canvas by Pierre Clerc, abstract forms in a beautiful harmony of grays, enhanced by a superb burgundy lacquer. Pierre Clerc was close to Soulags, Fautrier, Atlan, and César, and a close friend of Poliakoff, whose work this painting shares in spirit. With them, he exhibited at the Galerie Legendre, the famous gallery on rue Guénegaud, from 1957 onwards, and later at the Salons Réalités Nouvelles and Comparaisons, which he co-organized. His work is represented in the collections of prestigious museums, including the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, the Guggenheim, and the Kunsthalle. He exhibited worldwide in the 1970s and was involved in a car accident on his return to Paris in 1984. Our canvas is dated 1955 and signed in the lower left corner; it has not undergone any restoration.
