Acrylic painting on hemp or burlap canvas by Michel Guignard, signed and dated 1988. The canvas is very large (190 x 220 cm) and depicts a blacksmith in a castle. Michel Guignard is a French artist, born in 1929 in Menouille, in the heart of the Jura region, into a family of artisans. Fascinated by outsider art and the mystical expressionism of Romanesque art, he began his artistic career as a wood sculptor. However, in 1975 he discovered his calling as a painter. He moved towards abstract and expressionist-naïve forms, guided by his inner self.
