Pair Of 18th-century Moustiers Earthenware Plates
A set of two earthenware plates, which can form a pair, signed on the reverse with a black cross and attributed to the Ferrat workshops of Moustiers, or according to other sources to Martres Tolosane or Varages, although the decoration remains much more in the Moustiers style, as does the scalloped shape of the plates. The decoration, known as the "grotesque" pattern, features green and manganese lines, here depicting a parrot and a wading bird. Both plates are from the same workshop. They are lightweight, with a beautiful glaze and in good condition. An old collector's label is on the reverse: "Moustiers XVIIIe". Neumann expert. All questions welcome.
