Eugène Galien-laloue (galien Laloue 1854-1941) Oil On Canvas, Hamlet By The River Barbizon

Artist: Eugène Galien-laloue
Our painting depicts a charming, poetic countryside scene: a riverside hamlet with two farm women, just as the artist loved to paint them in the purest Barbizon tradition. A sunny day unfolds, its pale blue sky barely dimmed by wispy clouds. The painting dates from the 19th century, circa 1880-1900, and was brilliantly executed by the artist with the vibrant, luminous, and colorful touch so characteristic of his work. It is enhanced by a beautiful frame of wood and gilt stucco, skillfully attached to the stretcher with small brackets. Signed with his pseudonym "A. Languinais" in the lower right corner. Dimensions: Stretcher: 27 cm x 41 cm (size 6P) With frame: 40 cm x 53 cm. Very good condition. On its original canvas. It has been cleaned and is therefore ready to be hung. Its counterpart, with the same frame and signed with the same pseudonym "A. Languinais" in the lower left corner, is also for sale in my gallery (see photo of the set). A third painting signed "A. Languinais" is also for sale. Eugène Galien-Laloue, a painter of the Belle Époque, famous for his gouache views of Paris, painted numerous works under various pseudonyms to avoid the exclusive contracts that bound him. The painter is listed in the "Bénézit" dictionary as well as in the "Lesser Masters of Painting" dictionary by Gérald Shurr and Pierre Cabanne, the Dictionary of Painters in Montmartre by André Roussard, and the Catalogue Raisonné by Noé Willer, Eugène Galien-Laloue, The Triumph of Paris. Her works are featured in numerous public collections both in France and abroad, notably in the museums of Louviers, Mulhouse, and La Rochelle.
