HISTORY: Josep Cardona was a Catalan sculptor, a disciple of the sculptor Manel Fuxà i Leal. He studied painting, sculpture, and engraving at the La Lonja School of Fine Arts, where he met Pablo Picasso, who painted several portraits of him. He shared a studio with him on Carrer Escudellers Blancs in Barcelona. He was a member of the Sant Lluc Artistic Circle and the Royal Artistic Circle of Barcelona. He spent time in Paris and also worked in Argentina, where he produced monumental statues, as well as in Madrid. Some of his bronzes have an Impressionist touch, probably influenced by Pavel Trubetskoy, an Italian sculptor of Russian origin and a disciple of Rodin.
