Louis XV Period Carved Giltwood Wall Console With "pomegranates" Motif
A beautifully proportioned, carved, giltwood wall console.
It rests on two inverted scrolled uprights, the shell-shaped feet adorned with an openwork foliate garland.
Each corner of the apron is carved with a pomegranate motif, repeated at the end of the apron.
This very finely carved and openwork atop the entire band lends considerable elegance to the console.
This beautiful balance testifies to the skill of a cabinetmaker, most likely Parisian.
The stretcher is also finely crafted with a central motif of a bursting pomegranate.
The console is topped with its original royal red marble slab with a corbin beak edge.
It follows the curve of the apron with a rare concave central cutout.
The marble is 3.4 cm thick.
The gilding is original and shows some minor imperfections or losses inherent to 18th-century giltwood.
A very beautiful Louis XV period console, in the Rococo style, with a rare pomegranate motif, a symbol of life and power.
