Chinese-decorated cardboard box in black, gold and polychrome lacquer depicting a courtyard and garden scene animated with characters, pavilions and wooded landscapes.
This fine work of lacquer and gilding illustrates the refinement of 19th century Chinese decorative art, influenced by exchanges with Europe. The composition, very detailed, mixes scenes of life, traditional architecture and stylized nature, in a harmony of warm and contrasting tones.
The box features an opening snap fastener in perfect working condition and attention to detail.
Rectangular shape with softened angles, typical of workshop productions intended for export or cabinets of curiosities.
