Limoges Enamels, Virgin And Child With A Pear In A Lead Frame
Limoges enamels, in a lead frame.
Limoges enamel plaque depicting the Virgin and Child holding a pear in her right hand, in a superb lead frame.
This work is similar to a work held at the Louvre Museum under the title: "Virgin and Child with a Pear" (catalog number OA3362) and attributed, based on style, to the master MP, with a creation date of 1540-1560, and acquired in 1893. (https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Vierge_%C3%A0_l%27Enfant_%C3%A0_la_poire_%28Louvre,_OA_3362%29.jpg)
The dimensions of our plaque (10.2 x 6.9 cm) are identical, and the plaque is slightly convex.
Unlike the Louvre plaque, the reverse with the counter-enamel is clearly visible.
The design on our plaque is identical to the one in the museum, which could suggest a similar date for the piece.
The Renaissance lead frame is superb and in perfect condition.
It may have originally been silvered; it measures 20cm x 12cm.
