He was born in Langonnet, Brittany, in northwestern France, on October 27, 1839, and became a student of Gleyre and Cabanel. Le Bihan became a versatile artist, known for both his portraits and genre scenes. He produced large and particularly impressive landscapes, often inspired by Brittany. He had a studio in Quimper, Brittany, and later in Paris. From 1869 to 1900, he exhibited regularly at the Salon des Beaux-Arts in Paris.
