Antique Oval Painting, Antique Frame, Madonna Face
Magnificent oval frame in gilded and carved wood containing a half-length portrait of the Virgin and Child. Oil on canvas mounted on cardboard. Italian school, late 17th/early 18th century. The painting presented is a variation of the famous "Madonna del Dito" (or "Madonna Addolorata"), originally created by Carlo Dolci (1616-1686) and reproduced by numerous artists, including his pupil Bartolomeo Mancini. Main features: Subject: Bust of the Virgin Mary in prayer. Distinctive detail: It is called "Madonna del Dito" because, in Dolci's original painting, a finger protrudes from her blue cloak. This detail may or may not be present in some copies. Style: The work is characterized by a fervent expressiveness and a meticulous rendering of the flesh tones, typical of Dolci's Florentine Baroque style. Frame size 25 cm x 21 cm, painting 17.5 x 14.5 cm
