"Portrait Of Louis Ferdinand Of France After M. Quentin De La Tour, 18th Century"
This watercolor dates from the 18th century, likely the second half of the 18th century, the transition between the reigns of Louis XV and Louis XVI. The work is pleasing to the eye; it depicts a portrait of Louis Ferdinand of France after Maurice Quentin de La Tour (1704-1788), a French pastel portraitist. Louis of France, Dauphin of Viennois, born on September 4, 1729, at the Palace of Versailles and died on December 20, 1765, at the Palace of Fontainebleau, was the eldest son of King Louis XV of France and Navarre and his wife, Marie Leszczynska. The work is unsigned, but the portrait is well executed. There was a label on the back that once bore the artist's name, but it is unfortunately illegible. The frame is later, dating from the 20th century, as is the back. There is a protective pane of glass. This watercolor remains presentable, although there are some tears in several places, as well as scratches; these are imperfections due to its age. You will notice rubbing, marks, and wear, particularly on the frame. For the condition, please carefully examine the photos. The photos are an integral part of the description.
