Coptic textile - Egypt, Byzantine period, 4th-7th century AD. Square fragment of fabric (tabula) depicting a nude ephebe holding a shield. The textile is under glass in a gilded wood and stucco frame. Three chips to the stucco (clearly visible in photos). Acquired from the estate of an antique dealer in the Rhône region; unfortunately, the provenance of this piece has been lost. Weight: 870g. Frame dimensions: 36.5cm x 3.5cm. Fabric dimensions: 22cm x 19cm.
