"Porquier-beau Quimper Plate"
Porquier-Beau Quimper 19th Century Plate: "Farewell to the Fisherman". With a scalloped edge, it is bordered with scrolling foliage centered on the upper part of the Breton coat of arms. The polychrome painted decoration presents a scene very representative of the lives of fishing families at that time. A young woman, standing at the water's edge, holds a small child who smiles as he looks at his little sister, who is standing just behind their mother. The mother waves frantically goodbye to the departing fishing boats. The children's carefree attitude cannot hide the wife's anxiety, as she fears the worst each time her husband sets sail. On the reverse is the inscription "Farewell to the Fisherman" in blue, the initials PB for Porquier-Beau, and an old label, probably from a collection, which is no longer legible. Diameter: 23.5 cm. Good condition. A discreet, old restoration has been made to the young woman's dress.
