Provençal Wedding Chest, In Solid Cherry Wood, Louis XV Period, 18th Century
Superb wedding chest in solid cherry wood, richly carved, featuring an elegant design of foliate scrolls and facing birds around a central medallion. A pretty frieze of carved Greek key patterns adorns the upper section, while the lower section has a curved front. The uprights are decorated with foliate swags, and the cabriole feet are typical of 18th-century Provençal craftsmanship. It has a beautiful antique patina. There are a few minor imperfections and restorations consistent with age (a small crack in the top, visible peg holes), but the chest is otherwise sound and perfectly stable.
