"Rare Cast Iron Torchère – Barbezat Foundry / Val d'Osne, Circa 1880"
An elegant cast iron torchère made around 1880 by the renowned Barbezat & Cie foundry in Val d'Osne, bearing its clearly visible stamp on the base. This beautiful model, listed in the foundry's period catalog, is directly inspired by the compositions of Mathurin Moreau and depicts a young woman draped in classical style, holding an ornamental vase. The sculpture is distinguished by its grace, the delicacy of the drapery, and the quality of the vase's decoration. It rests on its original base and is presented on an elegant Turquin blue marble pedestal, enhanced with a frieze of gilt bronze beads. Condition: very good overall condition, with a beautiful original patina. Note: a few fingers are missing from the left hand, without detracting from the piece's presence or aesthetic integrity. This torchère can be installed both indoors and outdoors. It can be electrified upon request to create a spectacular light fixture. Place this 145 cm bronze statue beside the entrance door of a bourgeois residence, under a leafy porch raised on a few white marble steps: the effect is simply remarkable. France, late 19th century. A high-quality decorative piece, typical of the craftsmanship of the Val d'Osne art foundries.
