"Louis XV Desk Clock By Gustave Lévy "
A Louis XV style desk clock. Rococo decoration of acanthus leaves, shells, and plant motifs, signed by the bronze caster Gustave Lévy, successor to the renowned founder Vittoz. Gustave Lévy (1820-1899) worked with the sculptors James Pradier and Albert Ernest Carrier-Belleuse. The fine chasing on this mantel clock reflects the artist's skill. The mercury gilding alternates between matte and brilliant-cut gold, polished with agate. The clock mechanism, signed Bordier, active in Paris around 1870, is functional and comes with its pendulum and original key. The white enamel dial with blue lettering is in very good condition.
