Wilfrid-Constant Beauquesne was a French painter born in 1840 and died in 1913. He was a student of Harace Vernet and Vernet-Lecomte at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He specialized in military painting, and more specifically scenes from the Franco-Prussian War of 1870. His highly realistic works suggest that he participated in the war as a combatant. In this genre, he is the successor to the greatest masters such as Alphonse de Neuville, Berne-Bellecour, and Édouard Detaille. He regularly exhibited a work at the Paris Salon each year. YEAR; THIS PAINTING, PAINTED ON A WOODEN PANEL, IS IN A BEAUTIFUL ORIGINAL GILDED FRAME. IT IS SIGNED LOWER RIGHT. THE REDUCED PRICE REFLECTS THE CRACK IN THE PANEL.
