"Vermeil Diadem/comb, Directoire Period"
A beautiful Directoire-era vermeil diadem or hair comb bearing a rare hallmark: a horse's head within an oval containing the number 2. This hallmark was created in 1794 or 1795 by the Paris goldsmiths' guild and was used until 1797. It applied only to silver pieces of 843/1000 fineness (second standard). The horse hallmark appears twice, and the goldsmith's mark is illegible (see photos). Dimensions: 15.7 cm x 9 cm. Weight: 72 g
