Max (Albert) Carlier was a Belgian painter; born in Tourcoing / France in 1872 and died in Schaerbeek (Brussels) in 1938.
He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels; where he was influenced by the Impressionist and Realist styles of his time. Carlier created nudes, female figures, interiors, still lifes, and floral compositions.
He had a rich and warm color palette and showed meticulous attention to detail in his works.
Carlier became famous primarily for his sumptuous floral compositions and still lifes.
He also painted genre scenes such as kitchen interiors with maids, ladies in their boudoirs, and still lifes with flowers, fruit, game, or even floral still lifes with kittens.
His works are signed M. Carlier, Max Carlier, Albert Max, Max Albert, or under the pseudonym M(ax) Bernin.
He traveled frequently throughout Europe and spent a great deal of time in Italy and Brittany, where he found inspiration. He also spent some time in Paris, where he participated in several exhibitions.
His work has been exhibited in numerous galleries and museums, including the Royal Museum of Fine Arts Antwerp and the Museum of Fine Arts Brussels.
His paintings, known for their vibrant colors and precise details, remain highly sought after by collectors and art lovers for their beauty and technical mastery.
