Edouard Gille - Eugène Collinot Large Ornamental Dish With Polychrome Enamels
Large ornamental glazed ceramic platter, marked on the back in relief EG Edouard Gille, French ceramist and head of Eugène Collinot's workshop until 1866. He founded his own workshop in Paris in 1868. His work is clearly very inspired by the works of his former master, Eugène Collinot. This platter is a perfect example of high-quality execution; it depicts a bird perched on a flowering oleander branch surrounded by butterflies against a turquoise background. A composition foreshadowing Japonism. The glaze is beautifully fresh and the colors superb. Good overall condition, a small chip in the glaze on the base and there appears to have been a small, barely visible restoration on the rim. No cracks or chips. All questions welcome.
