Sculpture - patinated bronze paperweight. After Paul Comoléra, signed under the bird's wing, stamp on the reverse. Bronze and Susse Frères workshops in Paris. Fine quality edition of an early cast from the late 19th century. Paul Comoléra, a student of François Rude, exhibited at the Salon des Artistes in 1847 and until his death in 1890. Known for his realistic animal studies, he had Jules Moignez as a student. Made by one of the greatest Parisian foundries of the second half of the 19th century; it remains today the oldest art foundry in France. Good overall condition. All questions welcome.
