(mid-17th century)
Still life with bread, flowers and painting
Oil on canvas, 77.5 x 100 cm
Very good condition.
The painting can be attributed to the Roman milieu and is probably the work of a Northern European painter active in Rome. On a table covered with an oriental tapestry are a painting with a gilded frame, depicting two men, one of whom is holding a candle, a dish with bread and a vase of flowers, which appear to be passion flowers. A green cloth with gold edges is also placed against the painting depicted. The dark setting of the scene highlights the objects depicted with skilful colour accents and a precious, naturalistic materiality.
