Breton Silverware, Louis XIV Period. Round silver bowl with scalloped rim and straight sides. Hallmarks of the city of Quimper. Circa 1706, by the master silversmith Jean Baptiste Coqueteau, admitted in 1691. 22 cm in diameter. Weight 330 grams. Very good condition, unpolished, minor scratches from use, beautiful patina. Hallmarks clearly marked and legible. An example of the same shape, date, and from the same city is referenced on page 328 of "The Goldsmiths of Lower Brittany." A rare Breton model to have survived the large-scale meltings of King Louis XIV.
