English-style Glass-fronted Bookcase With Sliding Panels And 5 Shelves.
English Sliding Glass Bookcase in Mahogany and Mahogany Veneer on Oak, Late 19th Century.
Elegant bookcase in mahogany and mahogany veneer, veneered on oak, dating from the late 19th century. It is still dovetailed if you look closely at the top. A very fashionable piece of furniture in England at that time, it offers five levels of storage. This large model consists of a base with a low plinth and a molded cornice at the top. The five storage compartments close with sliding glass panels. A large bookcase with a lot of character, a somewhat atypical piece of furniture in France. The glass panels slide inside the cabinet, which is very original and allows for significant storage, with the glass revealing decorative objects and other items through the transparency. It can therefore be used as a bookcase or a display cabinet and is in very good condition with a beautiful patina and a not-too-glaring waxed varnish finish. There are a few minor restorations consistent with age and use. Maintenance is minimal, and one of the glass panes has been replaced.
This type of bookcase can now blend perfectly into a period interior with furniture of any style, even Art Deco or contemporary, as its lines are timeless and it offers ample storage.
Dimensions:
173 cm high, 106 cm at its widest point, and 42 cm at its deepest.
Each glass-fronted compartment measures 35 cm deep by 25 cm high.
