"Louis XVI Period Flat Desk Stamped Avril XVIII"
An elegant and classic flat desk, open on all sides with three drawers in the front, brass-banded uprights, and four tapered, fluted legs. The side drawer pulls are covered in green leather, matching the top (the leather has a lovely patina). This attractive desk, with its elegant proportions and not too large, is suitable for a living room and is stamped by Etienne Avril (1748-1791), a master craftsman in 1774. He is known for his high-quality pieces with rigorous, understated, and elegant lines, mahogany-paneled furniture with almost no bronze mounts. He received numerous commissions, notably for Marie Antoinette and her apartment at the Château de Saint-Cloud. The desk presented here is a fine example of his work.
