Jules Moigniez (1835-1894) was a French animal sculptor. His father was a metal gilder. Jules was a student of Paul Comolera (1818-1897), a renowned sculptor specializing in birds. Comolera himself was a student of François Rude.
At the age of twenty, Moigniez exhibited his first sculpture, "Pointer Dog Pointing a Pheasant," at the 1855 Universal Exhibition in Paris.
He then exhibited regularly at the Sa-lon from 1859 to 1892, receiving an honorable mention in his first year. He presented his sculptures again at the 1878 Universal Exhibition in Paris.
Moigniez achieved success, particularly in England and the United States. His works were considered remarkably detailed, with exquisite chiseling and elegant poses. Seeing his son's success, his father built a foundry specifically for him.
