Auguste Heiligenstein (1891-1976) began his apprenticeship at a very young age as a glassmaker, notably with Legras. He was initially an excellent decorator on glass and porcelain. He worked at Baccarat as a designer. In the 1920s, he became director and then artistic advisor at Leune. He married Odette Chatrousse, a ceramicist. From 1923 onwards, he exhibited as a ceramicist and especially as a decorator of translucent enamels outlined in gold (a technique unique to him). In the 1920s and 30s, he remained an artistic advisor to major glassmaking houses while simultaneously creating his own pieces in glass and ceramics. Some of his works are in the Museum of Modern Art in Paris.
