Oil on canvas by Carlos Da Cunha, 1962. Carlos da Cunha was a Brazilian painter born in 1907 in Jaguarão, in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. He lived in Porto Alegre, then moved to Rio de Janeiro in 1930. In the 1960s, he relocated to Paris. He was married to the French painter Henriette Thiébaut. He began his career as a figurative artist before moving towards abstraction. He participated in several important exhibitions, notably at the Salão Nacional de Belas Artes in Brazil in the 1930s and 1950s, as well as exhibitions of Brazilian artists in Paris in the 1960s, such as those at the Galerie Debret.
