"Giant Soup Tureen And Display Stand Creil Earthenware Stone Coquerel Legros Empire Mercure Bacchus Ino"
A "Giant" tureen and display stand, fine Creil earthenware, marked by Stone, Coquerel, and Legros d'Anisy (three intertwined letters), dating from between 1808 and 1818. One of the large medallions depicts Mercury presenting the infant Bacchus to the goddess Ino, based on a contemporary print. Numerous smaller medallions, some reproducing La Fontaine's fables such as "The Crow and the Fox" and "The Fox and the Stork," feature broad landscape scenes in the Italian style. Tureen dimensions: 41.5 x 22.7 x 27 cm. Display stand dimensions: 40.6 x 28.5 cm. Total height: 29 cm. Very slight wear to the glaze, a tiny chip on the inside of the lid. Marks on the tureen and display stand are underglaze and impressed into the clay.
